NEW YORK, Feb. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Hockey legends and New York Rangers’ Hall of Famers, Rod Gilbert and Brian Leetch, hosted the 24th annual “Skate with the Greats” at The Rink at Rockefeller Center on Friday, February 16. The New York City staple event supports the Ronald McDonald House® New York, which provides a temporary home and support services for families and children who are battling pediatric cancer. The event, which featured skating alongside legends, food and a live, silent auction with signed sports memorabilia, raised more than $800,000 and provided a fun a respite to families staying at the House.
“We’re honored that so many people came to this unique and fun event to support our children and families,” said Dr. Ruth Browne, President and CEO of Ronald McDonald House® New York. “It’s so important we continue to raise awareness and funds to ensure these families have a welcoming, caring and clinically advanced environment to stay while they are receiving treatment. These events make a huge impact each year, especially as we recently completed a House expansion that increased capacity to 95 rooms, allowing us to enhance services to more families battling cancer. We want to thank the New York Rangers, MSG and RBC for their tremendous partnership on this event.”
“Skate with the Greats” was founded in 2006 by Rod Gilbert and Brian Leetch in an effort to bring more awareness to pediatric cancer and illnesses. The participation of the New York Rangers is possible through a partnership with the Garden of Dreams Foundation, a non-profit organization that works with The Madison Square Garden Company and MSG Networks Inc. to positively impact the lives of children facing obstacles. Since the event’s inception it has become a winter milestone providing an opportunity for House residents to enjoy a small part of what New York City has to offer. For the ninth year, premier global investment bank RBC Capital Markets served as lead event sponsor.
“RBC is honored to sponsor “Skate with the Greats” and we are grateful to have a longstanding partnership with the Ronald McDonald House® New York,” said Bobby Grubert, Managing Director at RBC Capital Markets. “RBC is dedicated to helping our clients thrive and communities prosper and we are committed to help raise awareness of the wonderful support and services available at the House for children and their families.” Supporting organizations include, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Zurich, American International Group, Inc., Garden of Dreams Foundation, GNYHA Ventures, Inc., Mutual of America, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLC.
