RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR WITH A COMET

As the ball drops in Time Square and amidst the illumination from the burst of New Years fireworks, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory said that you might be able to see Comet 45P/Honda-Mrkos-Pajdušáková, near the moon Saturday evening, December 31, 2016.

It might be too faint to see with the naked eye alone.

You’ll need a dark sky, which will be hard in the twilight direction, and optical aids like binoculars and a telescope.

Some experienced night sky photographers might be able to catch it as well.
