Seeing a movie is the quintessential activity for those who are single and looking to mingle. Not all films are created equal though, and not all are suitable for a good first date. What you decide to watch can determine how the rest of the night unfolds. It is important to choose some time tested films that will maximize your enjoyment. Here are three date night movies for a blind date.

1. When Harry Met Sally

Taking place in the late 1970’s, this story is about college grads Harry Burns and Sally Albright played by Bill Crystal and Meg Ryan, who happen to end up sharing a fateful ride from Chicago to New York City in which they discuss love and the concept of friendship as it pertains to men and women and their ability to remain platonic. Around 10 years later, the two are reunited and develop a deep friendship in which they try to remain friends without the complications that may arise if they take things further.

2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

When Clementine goes through a brutal break up with Joel, she seeks out a procedure to erase all of her memories regarding him and their relationship. Upon hearing this, Joel sets out to do the same but finds out during the process that his memories of her may be more precious than he had ever realized. One of the greats in films to watch for a romantic date.

3. A Princess Bride

When a grandfather begins to read a love story to his sick grandson, the grandson immediately scoffs and makes a fuss about the possibility of mushiness and kissing in the story. After beginning to hear the tale about love, and a beautiful woman seeking her one true love, the story takes a turn to adventure as the protagonist, Westley, must battle the Prince Humperdink of Florian. With an entourage consisting of Inigo Montoya, a giant called Fezzik, and Vizzini by his side, Westley must find his one true love- before it is too late.

4. Donnie Darko

Taking place in the classic America suburbs, Donnie figures out the secrets of space, time, and how to bend it. He becomes fascinated in the irony and hypocrisy of everyday life and takes matters into his own hands when the powers of fear over power love in his peaceful suburban neighborhood.

5. Harold and Maude

This romantic black comedy lives up to the test of time. Maude, an eclectic and eccentric older woman develops a strong bond and friendship with Maude, a young adult with an extreme obsession with death and suicide. Their friendship soon blossoms into a romance to the dismay of his family but there is nothing anyone can do- until Maude’s final act.

6. Forrest Gump

Beginning in Greenbow, Alabama, this movie takes you through the life of Forrest, an awkward boy with a crooked back and a bad speech impediment. He scores low on an IQ test and doesn’t seem to be worth anything according to the standards of modern society. However, Forrest shocks everyone with his many various talents and his open heart that seem to lead him on never ending adventures. Filled with laughs, sadness, and real life lessons- Forrest Gump is a must watch film.

7. The Godfather

The Godfather is sometimes regarded as one of the best films ever made. It focuses on the life and struggle of an influential and powerful Italian-American mafia family of Don Vito Corleone- played by Marlon Brando. Al Pacino stars as Don’s youngest son who initially is reluctant to go into the family business. His entanglements see him plunging into a world of violence, crime, murder, and betrayal. This movie does a great job of showing the personal struggles of those who find themselves involved in crime families. A must on your films to watch.
