The Parents’ Choice® Foundation announced that Little Hippo® Books’ Come-to-Life™ fairy tale books are among the 2018 winners of a Parents’ Choice Fun Stuff™ Award, in the Picture Books category. The Parents’ Choice Foundation is the nation’s oldest nonprofit program created to recognize quality children’s media, with annual awards honoring the best books, toys, music and more for children. Celebrated by the Foundation as a “slightly cheeky and sanitized refresh of classic childhood fairy tales,” Little Hippo Books reinvents stories with the digital magic of augmented reality (AR) technology, adding what Parents’ Choice deems “a new dimension to the genre.”
Their initial line of come-to-life books includes updates to beloved favorites The Velveteen Rabbit, Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks & the Three Bears. Little Hippo Books brings the fun of reading to a whole new generation. Each book comes with a free Hippo Magic app – simply scan the pages of each book with your smartphone or tablet to bring the characters to life. Using cutting-edge AR technology developed by Tigra Live Animations, Little Hippo Books has revived the traditional fairy tale to engage and excite even the most reluctant readers.
“If daily reading becomes challenging or if you have a struggling/resistant reader, you know all too well how difficult it can be to instill a love for books,” says Kelly Dixon of the popular parenting blog Smart School House. “Little Hippo Books helps parents like us with kiddos who need a bit more help finding an interest in reading. [They’re] perfectly made for this generation’s kids.” Dixon isn’t the only famous fan: Jade Roper, Joy Cho and other fan-favorite mommies have posted their praise of Little Hippo Books.
With AR quickly becoming the hottest trend in the mobile app, gaming and entertainment industries, Little Hippo Books is ahead of the curve in bringing this up-and-coming technology to timeless children’s books. “We’re combining learning time and playtime. By upgrading these ever-popular stories with modern AR technology, children are able to play with the characters like never before,” says Layla McGrath, Co-Founder of Little Hippo Books. “Watching these characters come to life as they sing, talk and play with your little ones is a shared experience that truly is fun for the whole family.” An educational series of come-to-life books, ABCs and 123s, designed to teach children their alphabet and numbers, is set to release early summer 2018.
