Will Mars and our Moon be of Equal Size in the Sky?

Will Mars and our Moon be of Equal Size in the Sky?

Right now, Mars is at the peak of its fifteen year cycle, giving us a brilliant yearlong observations of the planet.

But, will it appear as large as a full moon, soon? Will it appear as a twin next to the moon on the night of August 27, 2017?

The answer is a definite… No!

This is a hoax that has been circulating social media. It’s not true and will never be true.

Mars is peaking and reached a particularly close opposition to Earth on July 27, 2018 after becoming the second brightest planet in the sky, knocking Jupiter back to third. Mars will remain the second most brilliant planet in the sky just behind Venus until around September 7th.
