Phoenix, AZ – While the I-17 was closed between Northern and Peoria avenues Jan. 14-17, construction crews completed a major milestone for the Northwest Extension Phase II. Crews installed six steel tub girders that will support the system’s first rail-only bridge over a freeway.
The design of the bridge includes a 250-foot main span without any pier column supports within the freeway corridor. Northwest Extension Phase II will connect West Valley riders to the transit system and help people travel to work, school and entertainment destinations across the greater Phoenix area.
