One year on from the release of the updated American Heart Association (AHA) and American College of Cardiology (ACC) blood pressure guidelines, 103 million Americans are classified as hypertensive and 13 million of them are still not aware they have the condition. Today, Omron Healthcare, Inc., the global market leader of at-home heart health and wellness technology, marked its annual Going for Zero Day by reaffirming its mission commitment as a company to eliminate heart attack and stroke and by issuing an important reminder – “Everyone should check their blood pressure and know their status.”
“Knowing your blood pressure status is a critical step forward for your overall health. Nearly half of all U.S. adults are now classified as hypertensive and millions of them are unaware of their condition. High blood pressure comes with increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Those events are preventable. It all begins with monitoring your blood pressure and that’s easier than ever to do at home,” said Omron Healthcare President and CEO, Ranndy Kellogg.
“Aware or not, anyone who is hypertensive is on a health journey. Those who know their status and take action to manage it have much more control over their journey and their destination. Millions of Americans have this health condition and Omron offers a range of blood pressure monitors and digital health tools to help every one of them toward better heart health,” said Kellogg.
On this third annual Going for Zero Day, Kellogg and other Omron Healthcare leaders gather all employees to take account of how the company performed to advance its mission over the last year and align on the plan for the coming year.
Since introducing its Going for Zero mission, Omron Healthcare has worked to make meaningful strides to eliminate heart attack and stroke. The company launched a national campaign to raise awareness, continued its speaking engagement tour to expand educational efforts, and partnered with other heart health groups to encourage positive behavior change.
Over the past few years Omron has introduced several new heart health innovations, including the EVOLV wireless upper arm blood pressure monitor and an upgraded Omron Connect App so users can store, track and share their heart health data with doctors and family members.
This year, the company unveiled the first wearable wrist blood pressure monitor available in the U.S., HeartGuide, which uses cutting-edge oscillometric technology for life-saving blood pressure measurement capabilities for hypertensive individuals anytime, anywhere. In honor of Going for ZeroDay, Kellogg said the webpage for HeartGuide is now live on OmronHealthcare.com where consumers can register to receive updates on product news, pre-orders and the highly anticipated launch.
In the coming year, Omron will also introduce Complete™, a blood pressure monitor with EKG measurement capabilities in a single device – a first-of-its-kind in the U.S. Developed in partnership with AliveCor, Complete utilizes an advanced algorithm for detecting atrial fibrillation (AFib) that will help build an even more comprehensive heart health picture for those living with the condition.
Kellogg also reminded employees that he will serve as chairman of the American Heart Association’s 25th Annual Chicago Heart Walk in 2019. Omron employees will participate in the event to boost awareness and raise funds for important research.
“Our employees know what our mission is and what their role is to help us accomplish it. On Going for Zero Day, we renew our commitment and make big plans to make a big difference,” said Kellogg.
