A Tsunami advisory is in effect for the US west coast as waves hit Tongaโs largest island Tongatapu, after an eruption of an underwater volcano in the South Pacific.
The tsunami advisory was in effect along the California coast since early Saturday morning, after being reduced from a more severe warning, which would have meant that residents along the vulnerable areas would have had to evacuate to higher ground.
Even with the reduced threat, officials are advising that people stay out of the water due to the threat of dangerous currents and tidal surges caused by the incoming tsunami wave which could make swimming and boating hazardous. https://tnc.network
