Elon Musk announced that his Boring Company has almost completed a tunnel under LA through a short video he posted on Instagram last Thursday, May 11, 2018.
The tunnel for transit, which he has been described as an antidote for LA’s gridlock, will open soon, Musk boldly predicts. Is this the test phase of Musk’s more comprehensive plans for a large “urban loop” tunnel system which will have thousands of stations underneath Los Angeles? This proposed system will have ferry pods that will carry cars, bikes and pedestrians at speeds nearing 124 miles per hour.
There is no exact mention of the location of the tunnel in the video, but it’s probably near SpaceX headquarters, in the city of Hawthorne, where Musk received permission to drill a two mile test tunnel under Crenshaw Boulevard and 120thstreet.
Musk says that they will be offering free rides to the public in few months, pending final regulatory approvals.
