Grilled chicken wings are the ultimate comfort food – snack on it while watching your favourite sports show or serve it with mashed potatoes for a heavier meal. It’s widely available and inexpensive. It’s also a safe bet for picky eaters like kids. Best of all, it’s very versatile, marinate or dip it and it will still taste great!

Maple and Spice Grilled Chicken Wings
What you need:
- 2 kilograms chicken wings, tips discarded and sliced into two at the joint
- 3 onions, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup dark maple syrup
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/3 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1/3 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Dash of cayenne pepper
- Cilantro for garnishing
Mix together onions, garlic, maple syrup, brown sugar, soy sauce, ground black pepper and cayenne pepper in a bowl. Pour mixture in a large sealable plastic bag then add chicken wings to the bag. Shake bag to coat wings with mixture. Seal and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. When ready, remove wings from bag and discard excess marinade. Cook marinated chicken on a pre-heated grill over medium-high heat for 5 minutes per side or until cooked through. Allow to cool for a few minutes. Serve topped with cilantro.
Spicy Peanut Chicken Wings
What you need:
- 1 1/2 kilograms chicken wings, tips discarded and sliced into two at the joint
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup water
- 3 tablespoons cider vinegar
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons hot sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons chilli paste
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon finely minced garlic
- Chopped peanuts
Combine brown sugar, peanut butter, water, cider vinegar, soy sauce, chilli paste, sesame oil and garlic in a bowl. Set aside. Toss the wings in vegetable oil and hot sauce then cook on a pre-heated grill over medium high heat until cooked through. Allow to cool for a few minutes. When ready, place grilled chicken in a bowl and pour half of the peanut sauce over chicken. Toss to coat wings with the mixture evenly. Sprinkle with chopped peanuts and serve with remaining peanut sauce.
