Melita’s Table, a popular whole foods restaurant specializing in Latin dishes, is getting ready to celebrate Earth Day with its worldwide online community through a 7-Week Seed Challenge. The challenge encourages participants to give back to the Earth and their communities by growing their own food through sprouting or traditional seed planting. The challenge launches on April 22, 2021 and runs through June 10, 2021.

“Most of the ingredients used at Melita’s Table are derived from the Earth. Whole grains, delicious fruits, and fresh vegetables, all grown from seed, allow Melita’s Table to offer flavorful, and unique, whole food dishes. This seed challenge is the perfect way to empower people to grow their own sustainable and nutritional foods at home, or even simply grow something beautiful,” said D.J. Wonnacott-Yahnke, Director of Consumer Product Management.

Participants in the seed challenge have the option of growing sprouts in their kitchen; no dirt needed! Or participants can plant seeds in pots. Step by step instructions are offered on the Melita’s Table website and sharing growing adventures is encouraged at #growingwithMelita.

“By encouraging a connection with our planet and our food, Melita’s Table hopes to cultivate a sense of stewardship while also adding an element of fun by creating this seed challenge. We hope our customers are inspired to try sprouting lentils or maybe try their hand at growing spinach, and will then share their journey with the world through social media,” said Mayela Masoli, Area Manager for Corporate Restaurants.

Seven weeks is about the length of time needed to see the fruits of one’s labor when it comes to planting and harvesting food. Spinach and green onion seeds are options given to cultivate during the seed challenge and are usually ready to harvest after forty days. Participants will be able to eat food they have grown themselves, which is a rewarding and gratifying experience.

Those curious to try meals in a restaurant setting that use lentils and other whole food ingredients can try Melita’s Table dishes seven days a week; 10:30am – 9:00pm Monday through Saturday and 11:00am – 8:00pm on Sundays at 1263 E Silverado Ranch Blvd., Las Vegas 89183, located in the Silverado Ori’Zaba’s Restaurant at the intersection of South Maryland Parkway and E Silverado Ranch Blvd. Delivery and pickup are also available.
