After unanimous approval by the city council, the city of Phoenix has set a new ambitious goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent below 2012 levels by 2025. The plan is to cut carbon pollution from residents and businesses, continuing the City’s focus on sustainability over the last several years.
This reduction goal keeps Phoenix on track to achieve an 80 percent greenhouse gas reduction by 2050, which is a goal the city approved in 2016, allowing Phoenix to go well beyond the requirement of the Paris Climate Accord. Despite the U.S. Government withdrawing from the accord, Mayor Greg Stanton said the City would remain committed to its reduction goals.
