The Voyager mission team fired up a set of four backup thrusters aboard the Voyager 1 spacecraft on November 28, 2017.
On Wednesday, November 29, was when mission controllers learned that Voyager 1’s thrusters did respond after being dormant since 1988. According to the team, this maneuver will extend the life of the fastest and farthest craft from the earth by several more years.
Voyager 1 was launched in 1977. It’s the most distant spacecraft from Earth and likely to remain so.
