(Los Angeles, CA) – November 2, 2020. Live Action short film TRIBES speaks volumes to today’s societal conversations, specially as the world goes through a global crisis and political strive.

“I’m humbled to be honored by such a prestigious festival like LA Shorts International. It feels especially uplifting to be recognized in the town where we are based. I’m ecstatic that our film’s message continues to resonate with audiences. Now, more than ever, this message needs to be heard. Perhaps we, as a society, will one day stop focusing on our differences, and start focusing on our similarities,” says director Nino Aldi.
TRIBES depicts a timely story. In this powerful and thought-provoking dark satire, the themes of identity and discrimination unfold during a train ride between two stations as an African-American, an Arab-American and a white man try to rob a train. However, no one wants to rob their own race. Self-identity is truly a bitch – a concealed premise perfectly fits under Nino Aldi’s camera, revealing our current social environment.
LA Shorts Fest made the film available on YouTube as part as their Academy qualification competition. The film surpassed 69,000 views and the early Oscars® buzz spread like wildfire among enthusiastic viewers, bloggers and the actors’ fans.
Other awards that TRIBES has won to date are:
• 1st Place – Best Short Film (funniest short from around the world) at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival (Eat My Shorts program);
• Best Short Film award and Best Director award, as well as a nomination for Best Actor (DeStorm Power) at the Yes! Let’s Make A Movie Film Festival in Montreal, Quebec.
Starring Internet celebrities Destorm Power (Punk’d), Adam Waheed (Pitch Please) and Daytime Emmy-winning producer/actor Jake Hunter (Class Act), the funny live action short will have a presentation at the Cannes’ AmPav Emerging Filmmaker Showcase in 2021 and an online release on the highly curated www.ShortOfTheWeek.com, where it will be viewed from anywhere in the world.
The 11-min short film is written by Andy Marlatt and produced by the three lead actors in collaboration with multidisciplinary filmmaker Jeion Green and award-winning Canadian producer Patricia Chica. The executive producers are Jordan Taylor Wright of Taylor Cut Films and Will Meldman of Double Down Pictures.
